Links, Mirrors and Banners

Will you link to my site / exchange banners?
I currently have no link section. So no banner exchanges are possible.
What banners should I use to link to MtG Lair?
Here's one to link to MtG Lair:

Please only use it to link to http://mtglair.de
Or use this one to link directly to the MtG Editor page:

Please only use it to link to http://mtglair.de/editor.html
Are there mirrors for this site / Do you want me to mirror it?
No need. My provider offers unlimited bandwidth and can easily handle what traffic I have.
Can I offer MtG Editor for download elsewhere?
It's freeware, so you can do anything you like with it (except sell it). But I would urge you to link to MtG Lair instead. Firstly, MtG Editor is updated infrequently, so the version you offer may often not be current. And secondly, most users need the instructions given on my site.

The Windows Installer doesn't work/I don't have Windows.
If you have an older Windows version, try this 16 Bit Windows installer.
If not, use the non-Installer version. It works on any OS with Java installed, but requires some understanding of your OS.
How do all the controls work?
Press F1 to open the help file from within the editor. All features are described there.
How do I insert Mana symbols?
Use tags. <G> stands for green mana, for example. The full list of tags can be found in the Help file.
How do I change the card layout?
In the View menu, there's an Options dialog. In there you can select a different layout.
Will you add split card support?
Not in the near future. It would very much mess up the program. As soon as I can think of a clean way to incorporate it, I will. But don't expect it soon.
What is Java? Why do I need it?
The Java Runtime Environment enables you to run programs written in Java. Bluntly spoken, Java is a program to run programs. That may sound a bit pointless, but it has specific andvantages. The most important one being that the program I write is platform-independant. MtG Editor can be run on Windows as well as on Unix or MacOS.
I realize that the JRE is a huge download and many users would prefer not having to go through it. I encourage you to do it anyway. In order to offer MtG Editor without requiring the JRE download, I would either have to rewrite it in another programming language or use commercial products to convert it, which is not an option, because MtG Editor, being freeware, doesn't generate any ROI.

What can I do here anyway?
Simple:
- Pick a riddle from the "Choose a riddle" area.
- Read the text thoroughly.
- Try to figure out the solutions.
- Click on the "Hint" button if available to get, well, a hint. The button will disappear if no more hints are available.
- Enter your solutions into the appropriate textfields. Never mind capital letters, empty spaces and hyphens.
- Click "Check" to find out if any of your answers are correct.
This dumb riddle is wrong, I'm sure.
If you're convinced I made a mistake with a riddle, please inform me and I'll change it.
I know a good one.
You know a good riddle? Great! Just send it and I'll put it up.

What can I do here anyway?
- You can construct MtG Cards.
- You can then submit them so I can include them in the collection.
- You can keep a link to your card so you can continue editing later on.
Can I use other Pictures than the ones listed?
Not yet. I may try to do this later, but I'm not sure. For now, you can tell me what image you want or need, and I'll include it in the list. You may send me a picture, tell where on the web I can find it, or just name any MtG Card. I'll take care of the rest.
Why does the darn thing take so long to load?
Because of the huge amount of data needed (The pictures, mainly). But once the thing is loaded, everything should be fast enough. If that's not the case, you may want to provide your browser with a greater cache.
How do all the controls work?
There are buttons with questionmarks next to the controls. Click on them to find out more about each control.
How do I get mana/tap symbols into my rules text?
You may include tags in your Text. They will be replaced with their graphical equivalent. To find out more on this, click the "?" next to the "Rule Text" textbox.
Note that these have nothing to do with HTML tags. Don't try to include HTML, it won't work.
What happens when my card is published?
Your name will be on the card if you wish. Or a synonym, if you prefer anonymity. I claim no rights on the ideas on your card, and I don't expect you will. I may publish them as I may see fit, with or without changes. If I make any changes to a card, I'll contact you about it. That's why I need your eMail address. If you don't include one, I can't get back to you.

What about the puzzles? Are they copyrighted? May I use them elsewhere?
You may use single puzzles elsewhere, if you let the world know where you got it from and include the author of the puzzle. Just send a mail if you want to publish a riddle elsewhere or if you have further questions.
What about the cards included in the collection? Are they copyrighted? May I use them elsewhere?
The same thing applies to the cards as to the puzzles.
What about the images used? Are they copyrighted? May I use them elsewhere?
The classical paintings may be used as you see fit. The fantasy paintings and MtG Card Artwork are from current artists and either WotC or the artists hold the copyrights. For most of them, I don\'t know who the artists are. If you are the artist of one of the Images and would like to have them removed, or have your name mentioned at least, let me know and I'll comply.

Browser Information

What Browser can I use?
Well, theoretically, you need a browser that supports JavaScript Version 1.5 in order to display the riddles and the card editor. The following browsers have been asserted to work properly with this site:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.5 or higher
- current Mozilla Build (tested with Version 0.9.9)
- Netscape 6.2 (because it's based on Mozilla 0.9.4)
The following Browsers do not support JavaScript sufficiently well:
- Opera (otherwise a great browser, mind you)
- Netscape Communicator (a bit aged, anyway. Try changing to Mozilla, if you're just using it to avoid MSIE)
There are other Browsers that may or may not work. Let me know if you have tested any others.
What Browser should I best use?
Microsoft Internet Explorer will get you the best result when you use the Toolkit Card Editor. Although the editor works on Mozilla and Netscape 6.2 as well (see above), MSIE can switch table backgrounds at runtime, so your cards get the right background images. Otherwise you'll just get colored backgrounds. No need to install MSIE, but if you have it installed, use it.
The Puzzlebox Riddles work with all three browsers equally well.
Oh, and just for my personal taste: I mainly use Mozilla and Opera bacause they're faster and more stable than MSIE, they stick to defined standards and they offer tabbed browsing.
